There is nothing inherently useful or useless about any given major--isn't college about pursuing what you find most interesting? And so what if it is, say, 17th-18th century French history (yay selfplugging)? As long as you enjoy it, no big deal.

massage theory

then you are blind.

Iām a science and math person, so most humanities majors make me cringe a little.
I donāt think any subject is āuselessā though, some might not be as applicable to my career goals (engineering), but learning anything ā even if itās not my favored topic, is rarely a bad thing.

Edit: Leave it to me to post in an old as hell thread.

I do think it is kind of hilarious all that talking about how itās going to be a long time until the economy collapses bit.

How is any major a waste of time? And how can people judge without knowing a personās reasoning for having said major. Obviously universities offer certain classes and keep majors for a reason, because they appeal to people and they fit peopleās needs. Having an elite job and making tons of money right out of college due to a major, isnāt exactly everyoneās goal.

Fight fight fight

i would say history and literature!

Every major except mine is useless.

Duh.

Deaf Studies?

majoring in french if itās your first language?

All my majors and minor might be sorta useless but least Iām enjoying myself while Iām at it ROFL :D

T_T

My main major is Animation and Digital arts, and Iām mostly in it for the connections since my film schoolās pretty well known :)

Iām sorry, but as much as I like film, I have to agree with a lot of people on here that film studies, without any true vocational classes, is pretty useless.

If you have ways you can apply a major in career then it is not useless. A lot of jobs just want a four year degree. If you went to a great school, received a perfectly āusefulā degree, and have no experience then employers will think twice before hiring you over someone with real-world experience.

Seems to me undergrad anything is useless according to this thread lol. So looks like you can major in anything and you will be screwed O_O.

Oh and

āKeep on waiting, itās going to be a LONG time. I hear Cuba is nice and they donāt have capitalism. Of course every car there was built prior to 1959. And just try to find a nice plasma TV which would be useless as there is nothing to watch anyway.ā

That was stated shortly before the economic recession, which I find ironic XD. Or maybe barrons jinxed it! Grrrrā¦

@Whoever said Deaf Studies: If you are talking about becoming a teacher who works with deaf students, youāre wrong. Although itās a narrow subject, who would teach deaf people sign language and work with them if there were no deaf studies majors?

Or teach hearing kids who want to take three foreign languagesā¦

I totally did. Damn Georgia law only allows two years of ASL to be taught, or did when I was in HS.

what the hell do you do with a degree in philosophy? walk around and think and give people your opinions that they donāt care about?

Iāve heard philosophy is very good in preparing you for law school.

How useless is ANY foreign language degree?
