What are the worst/hardest SAT essay topics you've heard of?

Do all established traditions deserve to remain in existence?

ew, I don’t even know how I would even answer that.

For that I would use 9-11 (muslim traditions are bad).

Don’t know about the worst, but the best one I ever heard of was one for Brandeis: it was something along the lines of: if you had to be raised by either a robot, a dinosaur or an alien, which would you choose and why? Great topic!

For that, I’d like to use how religion(especially Christianity) ■■■■■■■ humanity’s progress, how FDR did not follow laissez-faire, and how the 2 party system is stupid. However, I’d probably lose many points since these are controversial

wow the topic about established situation is such biased question to ask. Mainly cause it uses the word deserve. It would be controversial for anyone to answer yes on it.

^
Was that a CB topic or one created by Barrons?

I would use sati in India, footbinding in China, and human sacrifices in Maya.

Christianity, Love of Guns, and Hatred of minorities and immigrants in the United States

Oct 2010: Is it important to go outside to experience nature instead of staying indoors? (or something along those lines). Screwed me over since I drew a blank for examples.

As for the established traditions topic, I would bash on intelligent design and Christianity/other religions for their “donations please” attitudes, arguments and attempts to disrupt science education in schools (see Kitzmiller v. Dover), and general uselessness. Other than that, I would declare that Santa does not exist, NORAD is lying to little children, and that Christmas is just a fiscal scheme by large corporations to make money.

Probably a 2/12 due to controversial examples, but I could fluff for length and use fancy vocabulary to maybe get a 4/12.

^ The Night Thoreau Spent in Jail and The Scarlet Letter are good examples that would support the assertion that it is important to experience nature instead of staying indoors. I myself did not take the October SAT. Hopefully there is not as controversial a prompt on the January SAT as the one posted by xxsleepyheadxx.

If you answered “no”, a good line to use is “traditions are made to be broken”.

I remember seeing this on the October SAT saying wow three weeks ago I would have hated this, but considering my Common App essay perfectly fits into this prompt I actually liked it! I talked about what we could learn from nature.
