So as I've allude to in the title, I've recently moved during the worst week possible for a high school senior to move. Fortunately, the majority of my schools sent information a week before this change in address fiasco occurred. But now I live at a new address, and apparently the post office holds my mail for the next three weeks until the change in address is finalized (I went to the post office, did my pouted lip beg for my mail, and they told me to stop wasting space). This means they are holding all my college information about financial aide and most importantly my results about NYU.
Now I know I am likely to be accepted to Tisch; I've already gotten that "join us" letter a few weeks ago. I just want to know what specific studio they placed me in.
What should I do?
Should I directly call Tisch and ask? Should I only call the general admissions office to resend information? Or should I just talk to a college counselor to figure this out?
If I just wait, I won't get any mail until mid-April, which gives me half a month to figure out my finances and whatnot. Help, please? Thanks.

Call the admissions office and ask to speak to a Tisch rep. Explain the situation and ask that they resend the package to your new address. Ask who you should speak to about the studio assignment. I’ve heard from a couple of people that they’re planning on emailing the studio assignments this year, although I have not confirmed that myself with Tisch, so it’s worth a call.

Also, they will likely email you your studio assignment, so don’t worry about that. But if you are waiting for the big packet and financial aid info, yes, listen to alwaysamom!

Was told on the phone two days ago, there would be someone from Tisch at the event with a clipboard with names of students and studio assignments. Good luck.

Mother of GG…I can tell you that is very true…there IS someone at the accepted student event for Tisch who has a list of all students and studio placements in case you have not received the notification of that before you arrive at the event and they will tell you. And yes, he has it on a clipboard. You can ask at the reception.

We got the studio assignment right before going to this event but I recall they had it on the clipboard too and some had to check that way.

Thanks , now to find that clipboard person!
Sure it will all work out fine.

If I recall, there were many official Tisch people at the reception with name tags and such and you could ask any of these and they would direct you to whom to ask about the studio placements.

Thanks everyone for the advice. They people at NYU are going to fax me my packet next week. I also just got the email for the studio assignments. I’m at the experimental wing…the one studio I did not even consider as an option…great.
But thanks everyone!

My D is in ETW now as a senior after having done five semesters in CAP21. She loves ETW and says it is amazing. Most kids in it adore it. I think you will too!

smrtrt125, congratulations on being placed in ETW. My understanding is that it is considered to be one of the most desirable studios at Tisch. Large numbers of Tisch students audition for it as a senior studio. I believe it has a closer connection to the college (both physically and administratively) than many of the other studios, which is one aspect of it that the students really like.

Plus…I saw in a news article that ETW is Haley Joel Osment’s studio, for whatever that’s worth. :-)

My son was placed in Stella Adler and is pleased about that.

Yes, ETW is right in the Tisch building and so very convenient. Also, it is one of the only studios that is actually a Tisch one and so the faculty are all Tisch faculty (though that is not better at all than other studios that have wonderful faculty…including my D’s original studio, CAP21).

Yes, Haley Joel Osment is in my D’s studio but nobody makes a big deal over it.

TheatreMom…my D thinks that Stella Adler is one of the very best acting studios. She has had many friends in it. One is finishing out his time at Tisch in CAP21 now. One is in class with her for three semesters now in ETW but was originally in Adler. He is a life long friend and a fantastic actor. He liked Adler a real lot but wanted to also experience ETW which he loves now too.

Thanks everyone! Yeah, about ETW, I’m slowly liking it a bit more, but I don’t know. I’m kind of shaky about going in blind. I’d rather have a structure and guidelines (ie Meisner or Adler) and then find my own way after concreting that background. But I’m still gathering.
(soozviet, check your pm? I messaged you about your daughter. I’d be great if you could respond. thanks!)
And would anyone know if their studio placement decisions are final or if the can allow some “fidget room” in regards to incoming freshman? I’ll probably call, but I don’t want to come across as a picky jerk.

smrtrtl25, studio placements are final. There is no process for an appeal. You would be required to remain in your primary studio for your first two years then have the option for auditioning/applying for a transfer to an advanced studio.
