Worth applying without SAT IIs?

Hello,

I already have a fixed list of colleges i'm planning to apply to, but now that the deadlines for applications are moving closer, i'm contemplating whether or not I should add Harvard to that list despite my absence of SAT IIs.

Harvard's website clearly states that they require three SAT IIs from normal students, let alone home school applicants. Yet, i've heard of some cases where students were admitted to other colleges which had similar requirements when the students had no SAT IIs to speak of. With Harvard's offer of fullly paid tuition for lower income families, and considering what a great college it is, it's almost tempting to apply there if there is even the slightest chance of success.

Does anyone have some thoughts on this? I'm trying to decide whether would be worth it or if it would just be the same as throwing $100+ in application fees away.

If they say they require SAT II's, to apply without them would lower your odds considerably, I would think. (And odds for getting into Harvard are already low.) Unless you have discovered a cure for cancer, or done something else really outstanding, I think there is little hope if you don't meet their requirements.

That's my feeling, anyway. Perhaps some one here has inside information or personal experience, which I certainly do not.

I think you are throwing away $100.
