Yes, it’s certainly worth applying. Definitely retake the SAT and figure out your FSU GPA, which only includes your core courses. I know many people that have been accepted with a similar SAT, as long as all scores are above 500 (any under 500 and you will be denied) you have a shot. However, be advised that FSU is not a cake walk school and if you are accepted that “0” movitaion is going to need to raise significantly.

I had no motivation to apply because I thought I didn’t have a chance. The lack of motivation wasn’t academics related, I’ve raised my grades significantly in the past year

Have you considered applying for Summer 2011 admission? It is generally easier to be admitted for Summer and you are required to do one summer session anyway.

The academic profile of the middle fifty percent of freshmen accepted in 2010 was:
3.5-4.2 academic GPA; 25-29 ACT composite; 1730-1950 SAT total.

Your calculation of a weighted GPA may be in error, as it is difficult to go from an unweighted of 3.0 to a weighted of 3.8. FSU’s GPA is only core courses (english, math, science, social studies and language) with no electives in the calculations. They weight honors 0.5 and AP/DE/IB at 1.0.

Your weighted GPA is likely 3.4-3.5. That, and your ACT scores put you at the bottom of the middle 50% of accepted students, or at the top of the bottom 25%. So you need to work you butt off. Get the GPA up, take the ACT again. Apply for summer during the first admission cycle, but understand you might be deferred to the second cycle so they can see your first semester senior grades.
