Worth even trying?

Hi all, happy December. By this time most of us are finishing up with apps, but for some reason I’m still adding more to my to-do list. I’ve already applied to over a dozen schools but my mother would like to see me apply to at least one Ivy. I actually think Brown is a really nice school, so I wouldn’t mind going there. But I’m not so sure it’s even worth a shot, based on my stats. I’m by no means a bad student, but I’m not valedictorian either. I’m hoping you all can lend me some insight.

Major: English
GPA 4.0 UW/4.2W
SAT: 1460 (760E, 710M, 21 essay)
ACT: 31 (35/29/35/26/28) – so, at least my English scores are good?
Class rank: 14/300
Dual-enrolled English & Math for 5 years at community college (will graduate with 26 credits)
APs: Physics (N/A), APUSH (4), Chemistry (TBD), Euro (TBD)

Honor-roll student all 4 years, National Merit Commended Scholar

ECs:
Part-time job (public library) 20hrs/week, 10-12
Library volunteer, 8-10
Color guard vice-captain, 10 & 11
School newspaper writer & editor, 9 & 11
Yearbook Editor-in-Chief, 11 & 12
Youth in Government (press corps), 9 & 10

I like to think that I’ve got some pretty strong essays, too. And my letters of recommendation are coming from my two favorite teachers, so I’m willing to bet that they’re good.

So should I spend my time and effort applying to Brown or just let it go?

Your chances of acceptance are only 0% if you don’t apply.

@sciencenerd123 True, but I’d rather not waste time on a pipe dream. Haha

Your gpa is great and your SAT Score isn’t bad either! You would have a good shot! I don’t think you should apply to any school unless you’re super passionate about it though, and it doesn’t seem that you are.
