Im going to major in Business Administration, but with a concentration in Computer Information Systems (CIS). My first pick is to go to Pomona, because i will be able to get away from my parents if i live on campus, which is what i want. I know its considered an engineering school, but college is college and theyre both in the CSU system anyways. Pomona also has a lot of perks for me, beautiful, "prestige" i say Cal Poly Pomona and people are like oooh... Cal Poly, sounds fancy, but this is more just for joke. Pomona also has small class sizes. Anyways, Pomona is my first choice, and of course i will have to pay more for room and board, but my EFC on the FAFSA is 0 since my family income is really low and my parents cannot afford to help me at all, so hopefully financial aid covers room board too or a lot of it.
Fullerton is my second choice. It is known more as a Business school. It is also my home school for my HS, its just a few miles away at most and the majority of Seniors will attend Fullerton... because its our home school. Now, if i attend here, i will live with my parents, which i would rather not, but i assume i will not have to pay as much.
Okay, now my big couple questions are, if i attend CSUF after Community College, will i still pay less than if i attended Pomona, because Fullerton is my High Schools home school? I assume i would not pay less, but i honestly have no idea. Also, i believe it is easier to get into Fullerton than Pomona, is this true, what about even as a transfer student? Do you guys think i will really have a problem in a couple of years getting the classes i need at Fullerton as a transfer student, because i think Fullerton gets full and impacted pretty easily and quickly, true? Lastly, which would you say i go to? I mean, i could drive to Pomona, but its about 30 minutes away via the 57, and i hear it gets traffic super bad at peak hours.

Please help me out anyone. Any help, feedback, suggestions would be so greatly appreciated. Thank you!!

I am a transfer student right now and a Fullerton rep told me starting next year, they will start looking at the major gpa. So, as long as you do well in those pre-req courses you should be fine. I got accepted to Cal Poly Pomona as a Business Administration major with a 3.4, but have not heard anything from Fullerton. They are a bit slow sending out applications. Since you are local to Fullerton, I think it will be extremely easy for you to get in as a transfer. The rep also told me that the average gpa they were accepting from non-locals was a 3.2.

As for pricing, I’m sure you will pay a lot less attending a community college than Cal Poly Pomona. Financial aid should cover your costs for Pomona though and you should have some left over for yourself, but I am not too sure.

@iceage1 What do you mean they will look at major gpa? Like they will create statistics for the average gpa of the people in specific majors at CSUF? I dont really get what youre saying there.

Assuming an applicant is non-local to both schools, CSUF and CPP, do you think it would be harder to get accepted by CSUF or CPP? Also, if you already got accepted by CPP, do you think you surely must have been accepted by CSUF too?

So even if someone is transferring in from a Community College, and if he/she are in the local home school district for the school, the CSU still has lower acceptance requirements for he/she? I thought it only applied to incoming freshmen from local home district High Schools?

Oh, im definitely going to CC before, i have to, i dont even have a choice at this point. The only finances im worried about will be for when i am going to actually be attending a university; community college is dirt cheap compared to universities. I heard today from a friend who will be attending CPP this fall, that tuition is $13k a year, he will be an Engineering major i believe.

Let’s say your major is business admin, they will only look at the grades for the courses that deal with that major. For example, accounting, econ, math courses.

I’m not sure if it will be harder. If you mean by very competitive, then possibly yes. Yes, I think I will get accepted to Fullerton because I have already gotten accepted to CPP and CSULB. Also, my gpa is higher than the average gpa from a non-local student, according to the Fullerton Rep that was at my transfer fair.

Is he sure his tuition will be $13k a year? My friend is currently attending CPP and only pays about $2-3k a year. I don’t know if major has something to do with it or not, but my friend is a Business Administration Management and Human Resource major.

According to the CPP and CSUF Websites: CPP tuition is $6350.00/year and CSUF is $6196.00/year regardless of major. $13K is the tuition for the UC’s.
