I'm from Houston, TX and Berkeley would cost me about 50 grand a year, maybe even more with everything included. I was curious to know for those of you that go to Berkeley, or anyone that has an opinion on this, if undergrad is really worth that kind of money when I could stay in Texas for loads cheaper. Should this money be saved for graduate school? I'm just unsure. I would like some opinions , thanks a lot.

If you got into UT-Austin, Berkeley is not worth OOS tuition for undergrad, IMHO. Let's face it, you'd be better off paying $50k/year for a small private where you can get more value for your money.

UT-Austin is a fantastic school and the education quality will be the same.

Save your money and come to Berkeley for grad school. ;)

Congrats on your acceptance.

what school would you attend in TX?

If it's Rice, probably not worth the extra cost.

If it's TCU, UTEP, etc. (no offense to students at those schools), the difference will probably pay off in college experience and recruitment.

Berkeley is better than UT-Austin, but UT is close enough that if you got in there, you should seriously consider it.

best of luck!

It's crazy but I did not get into UT-Austin. However my plan is to do summer school, use my IB hours, and take classes in Austin in the fall at ACC. I'd be into UT in January. That's why I say UT vs. Berkeley

^ Go that route...as long as you get a UT degree, it doesn't matter the path.

$50k/year is an absurd amount of money.

10% rule screwed you over, attack?

yea, the 10% system is just ridiculous. Took up about 90% of the freshman admits

I don't think it's worth it to spend that kind of money for Berkeley if you have a reasonable alternative.

My sympathies and congratulations. That said, if you're pretty sure the UT route will work, do that.

Is Berkley worth going to out of state for Geography? Not many universities are big on geography majors.

What's the alternative, what is the cost differential?

No alternatives yet. I am a junior who is still looking for schools to apply to.
