Basically, I need to take an honors class. One of them is UC-transferrable, but it's an awful class (teacher has terrible ratings on ratemyprofessor). The other class isn't UC-transferrable, but it's a great class (teacher had great ratings on ratemyprfessor). Either way, I'll get the honors credits I need; however, I'm wondering if it might not be a waste to take a non-UC-transferrable class, especially when my GPA is particularly low (however, I'll be transferring next fall, so my GPA at the end of this spring won't really affect admissions decisions anyways).

Personally I would take the class with the professor who received a bad rating. In life, you are not always going to get bosses that you like and so would you choose a job with significantly higher pay, but a crappy boss, or significantly lower pay and a great boss? Take the class that is worth your time and is UC-transferable, its only for 4 months.

Well, I guess the fundamental point is whether or not taking the UC-transferrable class actually has an advantage over taking the non-UC-transferrable class, even disregarding the professors:

I’ll get honors credit either way, because it’s via my community college, not the UC.

The class wouldn’t affect my UC GPA until long after the UC’s have already made their decisions.

Basically, I guess what I’m asking is whether choosing to take a UC-transferrable class as opposed to a non-UC-transferrable class would help me as far as admissions is concerned.

Taking the UC-transferable class is more worth your time because it is a part of your 60 transferable units. So indeed it is more logical to take the UC-transferable class as far as admissions is concerned.

i would take the class that you are going to enjoy especially if you have other classes that have a heavy workload. If you already have plenty of transferable credits and you take a transferable class that you risk getting a poor grade in than there is a risk involved depending on what school you are attempting to transfer to even if it is spring semester before transfer… the reason is because some UCs require that you to maintain a certain GPA during the spring before transfer in order for your acceptance not to be rescinded…just be careful about taking a class that has poor ratings & that can cause your transferable GPA to suffer… good luck
