Ok so UGBA 10 ranks were just published, and I think I am probably getting a B in that class...for my calculus prerequisite, I took Multivariable (I want to double in math or stats or something) and got a B also. The only prerequisite left for me that I need to take is Stats 21, which I'm taking over the summer, and I think I'll probably get an A in that since it's the only thing I'll be taking.

My question is, is it worth it for me to take Econ 1 even though I AP'd out of it? The main reason to do this would be to raise the GPA of my prereqs because they're pretty low right now...I know Econ 1 isn't easy, but this is assuming I actually put in effort, I think I'd be able to pull out with an A. Is this worth it though? Is prereq GPA weighted that much more? I'm not sure if my EC's would offset it since they've been pretty good this year (one reason why I wasn't able to get great grades, didn't have too much time).

If you want to go into more quantitative areas of finance and economics, why not just major in some combination of math/statistics/economics? Haas might not be interesting enough for someone who wants more math (no UGBA course requires math beyond 16A).

I’ve heard from multiple friends that prereq GPA, especially Stats/Econ 1/BA10/Math, is extremely important. You’d want to get a 3.7 average on all four of those.

the main pre reqs are basically what they put most of the weight on in the GPA section if you’re applying to haas. itd be in your best interest to stock up on easy breadths to boost up your gpa, imho.

the argument here is that a B in lower div math can only mean a rough road once you hit upper divs. although i agree it’s a “bad sign” i don’t think one B should discourage you from pursuing a math or stats degree. but this is where it gets tricky.

if you swing again and take more math classes and find out you can’t stay ahead of the curve, you’ll be averaging B’s in these 4 unit math classes (54, 55, whatever upper divs you attempt to take next) which will only hurt your chances of getting into haas.

i think it’s important to prioritize your interests during this summer. you can’t double in math and business if you aren’t accepted to haas in the first place (i guess you could fall back on econ+math or +stats, which is nice too). if you’re in love with haas and cant see giving it up for math/stats, you need to make that decision asap, b/c unless you have stellar essays and leadership ECs, i feel you have an uphill battle as things stand today.
