worth it to take the ACT?

I just got a 2090 on the SAT, which is pretty good, but my gpa is around a 90, which isn't so good. after taking practice tests for the ACT, I'm confident in my ability to score in the 30's. I'm already signed up for the ACT in June.

My question is, if I do well on the ACT, will that help make up for my lowish grades? My feeling is that if colleges see me doing well on multiple standardized tests, they'll think 'm smart despite my low grades. However, since I'll for surre have studied for the ACT less than I did for the SAT, there's always the chance that come test day I'm not prepared enough and get a low score.

Is it worth the risk? and do I have to show colleges my ACT score even if I have a significantly higher SAT score?
