Worth it to transfer

So basically I would like to know if transferring from the University of Florida in Gainesville to the University of South Florida in Tampa would be worth it. Here is my situation:

I just finished my 2nd year of undergrad as a biology major. I messed up quite a bit but I feel like I have matured and am ready to conquer any course. I'm sitting at a 2.6 gpa and they're probably kicking me out of the major. I want to attend medschool (I know it sounds like it's not possible but one way or another I'm going to be a doctor, I know this now finally). I am originally from Tampa so I'd have a great support system from my family and am ready to put in the work 100%. I wanted to start fresh (chem1, calc1 ect). I know that do medschools only count a retake grade so I will definitely apply to those as well as md. I know that I would perform better living at home. Would it be worth it to transfer and live at home in my current situation?

Please I need advice on how to proceed not a scolding from an anonymous user on the Internet, I know I messed up. Thank you so much.

It doesn’t sound like you have any other choice if you are going to have to leave UF.

My only advice is that slow and steady wins the race to med school (I have a kid starting this fall), just keep your nose to the grindstone (two old sayings for the price of one!) and be sure to do all of the things you need to but with your own personal interests in tact.

See the Premed Topics forum for lots of experienced and knowledgeable members.

Let me clarify, I’m not being kicked out of the university. I will simply have to switch majors until I can regain access to biology by raising this GPA to a 3.0. My question reworded is: does UF’s immense prestige make it worth my while to stay in Gainesville in terms of med school? I am definitely more inclined to transfer but I wanted the opinions of those more experienced than myself. Thanks so much for the response =]
