Worth it?

Is it worth studying for AP tests like Calc BC, Physics C, etc. if HYPS doesn't give credit for them anyway? Any thoughts?

Does it really save you time later as you don't have to take as many courses?

[AP Credit Reference Table - Advanced Placement and Advanced Standing](Advanced Placement Class of 2027 | Office of the Dean of the College)

You can skip classes that you have already mastered the material for. Unless you are a senior, high AP scores also help with acceptance.

Some schools equate an AP Exam grade with a SAT Subject test. You’ll need to read each school’s requirements, but the ones which only ‘recommend’ verses ‘require’ SAT Subject tests will sometimes waive them if you have already passed with 4s or 5s many AP Exams, especially in the hard sciences, foreign languages and Calc AB, BC.

But just know… you do not have to self-report your AP Exam grades on the Common Ap. It is completely optional and the school will not see the grade unless you send it to them (not required) or unless your high school reports them on your transcript.

Princeton doesn’t give “credit,” but as an engineer, AP Calc BC and AP Chem allowed me to skip four courses that I would have been required to take. So yes, definitely worth it.
