I applied to Stern RD, but I'm starting to have second thoughts about whether I'll actually go. I mean, from some of the things I've learned about NYU, I think I'll like it a lot. On the flip side of that coin, I've read numerous negative reviews and such on various sites. I also have to take into consideration that I'm expected to finance myself through college, and that I've already been offered an annual 7k faculty award from IUB, my alternative choice. On top of that seeing as NYU seems to be less generous with the fin. aid, I would probably have an easier time overall paying for tuition and everything if I went with my safety.

Is there anything about NYU that would make it worth going to in spite of all this?

well, assuming that they mail the decisions out in the first week of April, I'd have at most a month to make what could probably be classified as a rather big decision. I just want to start thinking early so I have time to think things through.

IUB means Indiana University--Bloomington, right? That's a pretty darn good business school, too (It's working for Mark Cuban, right?). I mean, obviously I would say don't make a definitive decision yet, but if you would be okay with goint to IUB (you wouldn't hate/preferrably like it a least some), it does seem likely that with your financial situation, IUB would be a very attractive choice. Of course, if you go to Stern you will be setting yourself up very, very well for a good career, and decent financial aid + reasonable loans ($20,000-$30,000 total is not too unmanagable) + high paying career = not too hard to deal with financially. But, you probably have an MBA in your future, which (probably) won't be free, and if you would have to take out $100,000 in loans to go to Stern, then it probably isn't worth it. I realize this is a very wishy washy post, but of course I don't want to make a decision for you. These are the factors that I would think about, if I were you. And, don't forget your own personal preferences--those are worth a lot, too!

Visit! Getting opinions from people is all well and good, but they're hardly the most balanced reviews - people always focus on the bad more than the good, and there's nothing better than seeing it with your own eyes.

Although, it kind of seems like you've already made your decision. You didn't ask about NYU vs IUB; you asked if there was anything that would change your mind about not going to NYU... Who knows, you can't really make a decision before you see the financial aid package from NYU. Yeah, a month isn't the longest time ever, but it's not like you're completely ignorant about both schools.

If you're good enough to get merit scholarships from IUB, I don't see why you wouldn't be good enough to get money from Stern. Weigh your options now, but don't think too hard until Stern shows you the money. :P

Look at the qualifications /numbers of admits. The scores, rank etc of the Stern admits is much higher than IUB. A 24 ACT score will get you into IUB with a scholarship. That won't get you into Stern. On the grad level, Stern beats IUB handsdown as well.
