Worth keeping old papers/notes?

Hey everyone,

So I just got back from a college trip with my mom, and found out my dad randomly decided to clean the house (idk why; we're Asian and hoard everything so this was extremely out of character lol). It turns out he threw out a box of old essays I was keeping- I've kept most high school papers that I've written so I could reference specific teacher critiques and stuff like that. I have digital copies of most of them on my computer, but they don't have the teacher's feedback/corrections.

Was it worth keeping the essays? In general, is it useful to keep certain high school notes/old tests/anything for college? I had a great AP chem teacher, and all of her students come back to tell her how easy college chem is for them, so I'll keep her notes...and maybe AP calc also because I'm planning on using AP credit to skip Calc 1.

You should keep all your graded work during the duration of the class, and you should keep copies of anything that might be a source of amusement or nostalgia ten years from now. :)

If you feel like specific notes will really help you if the material comes up again. Although like halcyonheather said, I love nostalgically looking at old assignments.

My AP HuG teacher, for instance, assigned an insanely huge project, and when I look at it, it makes me think about the weekend before it was due, when literally all of her students were online complaining about it while desperately trying to finish it. (It also makes me think of the fact that I lost the flash drive I had it on two days before it was due. It’s funny now, but it was the scariest thing in the world before I found it.) Oh, nostalgia…

Some opportunities, internships, etc. ask for writing samples so if you wrote things you were proud of you might want to keep them, at least until you have a store of stuff you are even MORE proud of, as your writing continues to progress.

Thanks everyone- I never considered keeping stuff for the nostalgia factor. I guess all of the sleepless nights and ridiculous busy work assignments will make for a good laugh years down the road, if nothing else…

lolol I’d keep it. It’s a good barometer of improvement, brb gonna look at my 1st grade a-z book.

Oooooh, I actually never thought about it that way. Although, my problem with looking back at old work is wincing at my lack of academic skill. Like, “Daaaang, that gurl was dumb.”
