Worth of School ORCHESTRA?

HI, it's kinda awkward

but I'd like TO KNOW IF BEING IN ORCHESTRA WOULD AFFECT MUCH OF PERCENTAGE OF BEING ACCEPTED IN A GOOD COLLEGE.

I am going to a high school next year

And I think i'm gonna be busy that i can't take Orchestra(concerts, and fund raising for a trip in spring for everyday for 2 hours!!!!),
but my mum wants me to, because she thinks it's gonna help me go to college.

But, I am gonna be in Cross Country, Science Olympiad, Key Club, Tennis, etc and will be taking piano lesson privately and volunteering for many works.and one more, i am thinking of participating this one piano contest in spring too!!!!

Should I take orchestra?

I have to run for 2-2.5 hours for Cross Country everyday till the end of October

Then I would have to get ready for Science Olympiad

and blah blah blah

MY mom wants to put me in the Orchestra
I am not good at playing violin and don't like it either
She says to kinda quit playing piano, which I REALLY REALLY LOVE!

I tried persuading her, but she wouldn't listen to me
I told her there are many people who didn't take orchestra and went to good college

I don't want to be like a person who doesn't have a life

I mean, i want to hang out with friends

AHHHHHHHHHHHHH I don't know what to do

PLEASE DO TELL ME NOT TO BE IN ORCHESTRA OR IT DOESN'T AFFECT GOING TO UNIVERSITIES THAT MUCH

THANK YOU!!

++++

Thanks

but i do want to go to good colleges.

I mean, i was just saying that i might be able to cover it up by doing sports and academic activities..

Quit Orchestra. It's not going to help at all if you don't care about or like it. And I think that's what matters the most in ECs, whether you care about them or not.

after that post I would definitely say to quit orchestra.

If you're not good at it AND you don't like it, don't do it. The first part means that colleges won't care, and the second means that you won't.

Continue piano! You like it. Colleges will appreciate that more than your endeavors in violin.

As a leading violinist in my school orchestra, I think there is nothing worse than a mediocre player who does not even want to be there. They have no incentive to practice and bring down the entire group. I don't mind people who really want to be in it. But "my friends are there" or "parents made me do it" are poor excuses.

That being said, you might want to see if the orchestra ever needs a piano. If it's only a string orchestra, you might have a good chance getting in. You might persuade the teacher to let you play some accompaniment parts or accompany the string players in solo competitions. Colleges will definitely like that because you're expanding your passion in different areas while giving a hand to others.

Don't do orchestra if you don't want to! I am a violist that is a section leader, and we have people that don't want to be in orchestra and hate it, and they just drag the group down.

Not everything is about college. If you like it, do it. If not, don't. By the looks of it, you shouldn't do it.

Unless you're really good at your orchestral instrument, it's not going to help more than any other EC. In fact, it will be less helpful because if you're asked about it in an interview or something you won't sound very positive about it...

So yeah, I'd recommend you drop it... particularly if you have other ECs that you're more interested in.
