Worth paying $35 for US News College Compass?

The title says it all. We are starting the process. Is it worth paying $35 for access to US News College Compass? Are there better alternatives to Compass?

I did it a few years ago when aiding my niece. I didn’t renew when we started looking for my son, HS class of 13.

Instead, we used free version, bought Princeton Review and Fiske. PR was my favorite. I like the lists. Check out their website and Amazon descriptions of guide books before spending the money.

If a specific school interests you, Google their “Common Data Set” for plenty of information on stats.

Thanks for the quick reply. It looks like they raised the fee from $20 to $35 recently. I wonder if there is more (useful) information now available. Anybody with current access? Do you like it? (We will of course study these forums A to Z, just looking to see if there is something there that’s worth paying for…)

I did back in 2006 when I started with S1, but now most of the information is available for free. I’m rather fond of IPEDS and the common data sets. For general information about the college atmosphere there are some decent websites like Collegeboard’s and College *******'s to compare and contrast. As far as spending money, my kids liked the Insider’s Guide to College book.

I’m not familiar with IPEDS, can you explain?? and as you can see, you have been censored by cc. what was the other site?

[College Navigator - National Center for Education Statistics](College Navigator - National Center for Education Statistics)

LOL, that’s funny because it wasn’t a naughty word. Doesn’t really matter, google is your friend as there are many websites that aggregate college info. Of course I happen to think this one is the best! cltdad beat me to it with the link to IPEDS.

Can anyone pm me if they have this service! Pleaseeeeee I need someone to search something for me that has it. I will do anything. I am very pooor but I need to know :(

If you start a new thread with your specific question, someone probably will be able to tell you how to find that information yourself without having to resort to the paid version.
