I'm currently a senior who has his eyes on Purdue university. My worry is that while I'd be fine with a computer technology related major, my main interest is computer engineering, but it is much harder to get into. While my gpa (~3.7) and history looks good (~2AP classes, 8 EC's and National honor society, international culture club) my main downside is my SAT (1700) and it's too late to retake for early decision. I believe Purdue offers alternate majors if you get declined, but should I risk my possibilities by seeing if I can get into FYE? No matter what major, I'm looking at Purdue, so it's a much harder call.. thanks in advance!

Purdue will be interested and may give you leeway if you indicate to them how much Purdue is your no 1 choice. By applying before their Nov 1 first deadline and clearly indicate in your statement to them – you have a decent chance.

Their avg of matriculating students into the Engineering school had a 28ACT (or equiv of 1920 SAT) – which is above you. But I’d still go for it. Esp if you’re in-state. Good luck to you.

(Purdue Comp Engineering is one of my kid’s top two choices, BTW)
