I have a question about the art supplement. I just write original songs, play a guitar and sing them for fun. I'm not a professionally trained guitarist or vocalist, its just more a hobby really. If I send in a couple songs as an art supplement it would most likely be lot different from what they're used to hearing but would it be smart to send it in the first place?

I don’t know about Dartmouth. Whenever you are applying to elite level universities, you have to keep in mind that they are looking for those who are at the top of their game.
It’s one thing to mention that you write music as a hobby. It’s a completely different situation to send in a “hobby” in an Art Supplement unless you KNOW for sure it is high quality work. Show them your strengths; do not show them your weaknesses.

I have to agree with lagunal. We all want to present ourselves as multifaceted and accomplished applicants, but admissions officers are specifically looking for extraordinary talent when reviewing Arts Supplements, talent that is unusual for a 17-18 year old. If you feel this describes you, and you have an impressive repertoire to back it up, go ahead and send one in.
