Worth sending an update?

Hey ya’ll,
I was just wondering, since I was just elected Vice President of the French Honor Society at my school, if it would be worth it to send an update to the colleges that I applied to. I was accepted to UMaine & WPI EA, accepted to Smith via an “early write” letter, and deferred ED from Brown, then EDII from Tufts. I have sent Brown & Tufts Letters of Continued Interest.

I’m waiting to here back from these RD colleges: Dartmouth, Colby, & Bowdoin.

~Here are some of my other ECs/accomplishments for context~

ECs/Volunteering:
-School Literary and Arts Magazine (9-12): Editor-in-Chief junior and senior year
-Student Government (10-12): Head of Academics Committee
-Science Bowl (11-12): Co-captain of team 2017, Captain 2018
-VEX Robotics (10-12): Team Captain 2018
-Civil Rights Team (10-12): Senior Member
-National Honor Society (11-12): Community Service Committee
-Youth Court Volunteer (11-12): Advocate/Judge
-I do an independent science research project every year and I have presented scientific research every year at the state science fair, and the junior sciences and humanities symposium.
-I volunteer at a local mosque teaching Arabic to young kids

Awards/Honors:
-Inducted into the French Honor Society (10th grade)
-New York Times Editorial Contest Runner-Up (Top 25 out of almost 8,000!!) (11th grade)
-Award from the American Psychology Association @ State Science Fair (9th grade)
-Three scholastic writing awards (Gold Key, Silver Key, and Honorable Mention) (10th, 11th grade)
-Columbia College Chicago Young Author’s Competition finalist in the creative nonfiction category (11th grade)
-My school chose me as one of 2 delegates to Girls’ State, and there I was elected to the senate, then elected senate president (11th grade). Also just got a letter from them asking me to come back as a counselor this year. Should I inlude that if I do send a quick little update?
-RIT Medal for Creativity and Innovation from my school (11th grade)
-Selected to attend Consider Engineering camp at the University of Maine (Summer 2017)

Should I bother sending a quick update about my new leadership position? Would it help?

Good to hear from you! Thanks for the update!

I do not see what harm an update can be to the remaining pending schools. At the very least they will add them to your file. :bz

Anything that strengthens your application - additional honors or awards, is worth sending to the schools that haven’t made a final decision on your application.

@jym626 Would this strengthen my application do you think? I mean, I thought that my other ECs/honors were strong but I was still deferred from Brown/Tufts so that sort of makes me skeptical of sending them an update because first of all I don’t want to be annoying since I know that they’re busy but I also don’t know if it will really add anything since one of my strengths in my application was already my extracurricular involvement.

Well, TBH it’s not a super compelling addition, but if thats all you have (assume your mid year grades were sent by your GC) then you have nothing to lose. Gives you a reason to reach out and let them know you are still active in your organizations nd have an additional leadership position. Schools, especially when you are deferred, look for a reason to accept you, not to deny you. Give them a reason.
