Hey, guys:
With the ED deadline looming, I’m getting more nervous by the hour. On my Math 2 subject test, I scored a measly 750. Should I send this score in? I don’t have a particularly strong background in math: I received a 90 (A) in Calc AB, a mid-level B in Calc BC, and a 92 in AP Stats - all in my junior year. I scored a 35C on my ACT, though, with a 34 in math. Although I’m doing very well in my calculus 3 class at my local university, the AdCom won’t see this grade. Should I send my Math 2 score in? I’m applying ED to Wharton, btw. Thanks!
I think that’s a solid score to report. Those taking the Math 2 are the self selecting students who excel in this subject so the percentile shouldn’t matter (and as a poster on here once commented, it’s not like the AO’s is sitting there working out the percentiles for each subject test. They see that the score is 750, showing the student is capable in the subject and will move on to other aspects of the application).
Calling a 750 “measly” is disingenuous, at best. It’s a great score - send it in. If you do not get accepted, the reason will not be because of a 750.
Percentiles don’t matter; scores matter. It is important to understand that for several subjects, the percentiles are depressed because so few colleges request Subject Tests, that the ones that do are the ultra selective ones. As a result, it is the high achieving kids taking the tests. No AO is sitting on the floor cross-referencing scores with percentiles.
I took the Japanese SAT II as a sophomore and I got a 730 which is in the 42nd percentile soooo…
LITERALLY NO ONE ASKED @davidyekwonkim
Yes report that score. The percentiles are skewed because of all the international applicants getting so don’t worry about the percentile – that number goes down year after year.
@f2000sa I think you meant an 800 is 79th percentile. A 750 on Math II is supposedly 60th percentile.
@f200sa Ah okay, but that’s from 2007 by the way. This is the 2017 table that lists an 800 as 79 percentile:
