Will reading really hurt my chances?

What do you plan on majoring in?

Seeing that you seem interested in science, CR might not be too huge a deal with some colleges (it kind of depends on what they emphasize.)

It kind of also depends on your extracurriculars and GPA; if those two are very good then you might be able to get away with the CR like that.

I plan on majoring in either chemical engineering, biochemistry, or biomedical engineering. My SAT II scores are good so hopefully that will help me (750 Math I, 790 chemistry, and 730 physics).

As for GPA and extracurriculars, my GPA is very good (top 10% in my class with 460 students), but I do lack extracurriculars. I have them, but none that are anything special.

I’m on my iPod at the moment but I’ll post a more thorough response tomorrow.

You’ll probably be okay with McGill, UNC, NYU, and UMich, but have some trouble with UVA the way you are now. If you really want to solidify your chances of making the above colleges, it’s probably worth retaking the SAT.

Take my guess with a grain of salt and ask your guidance counselor and upperclassmen/graduates too, if you can.

Ok thank you! I’m going to try to meet with my guidance counselor very soon.

I would try one more time and aim for a 2200. If you don’t get it, just accept it. You still have a decent shot at all of those schools with a 2100.

If you want to apply any engineering program, you do need to bring up your Math score a lot. Also, for science or engineering major that require SAT2 subject test, you should take Math2 instead of Math1.

Bring up my math score for an engineering program? Did you mean reading?
