Ive been accepted into UNC and Duke, dukes my first choice however now that i got in im not sure if its worth the extra 40,000 a year. I only got offered 4000 dollars in financial aid
Do you guys this its worth going to Duke over UNC? Why or why not?

Depends, I guess.

How much did UNC offer?

And are your parents willing to shell out the extra?

it depends on whether you value the greater diversity, both racially and geographically of Duke more than the money. Also, the debt of college isn't permanent, particularly if your parents have enough money. The name on your degree is.

I'm happy I chose Duke over UNC, even knowing UNC would be MUCH cheaper (in state) compared to Duke (which I, like you, got very little aid). The big thing for me was the size of the campus. Duke is a much smaller community. Students live on campus for 3 years, so it's definitely a more residential, close knit atmosphere. When I'm walking around campus here I have a definite sense of who people are, but when I go over to UNC there are just SO MANY PEOPLE that I kind of feel overwhelmed. For me, it's DEFINITELY been worth it because I love the atmosphere here on campus. You'll get a great education at both schools, but if you're sensitive to the atmosphere on campus, you may want to make your decision based on that.

Have you visited both of the campuses?

ya but i cant justify asking my parents to pay 40,000 extra per year b/c ill recognize more ppl when i walk around campus

If you're instate, go to UNC. Seriously, the difference between a Duke and UNC undergrad is not worth 160,000.

I agree, if you are having to pay that much(unless your parents are rich and willing to shell it out) it's really not worth it.

The benefits of UNC-Chapel Hill in this case: Significantly cheaper ($160,000 is a lot of money). Also, students are very intelligent yet are laid-back and happy.

(By the way, although Duke has more regional diversity than UNC-Chapel Hill, Carolina has much more socioeconomic diversity. Both are important things to consider.)

I get slack for failing to apply to a single UC (I'm Californian).
But I mean, I don't want to go to Berkeley or LA, and looked out of state.

If you are dealing with 100% PRAGMATIC parents, you probably aren't going to win the case. The real value when comparing the two schools is based on intangibles mostly like fit and excitement about being on campus.

umm... go to carolina... you'll have more fun and will save your parents a lot of money.
