We're visiting relatives in So. Cal,. next week (from MA) and my high school junior D wants to see UCSC- is it worth visiting during break- no tours, etc? Will it be at all possible to see any classroom buildings, will there be anything at all going on? Just want to see if it's worth the drive. Any tips on how to find students etc appreciated- I know most people will be gone?

Basically the entire campus is in furlough from now through Jan 4th. So you could drive/walk around campus but there basically won’t be anyone around. I’d suspect most buildings are locked up as well. I’m sure some people are around, but very few.

I would post on local craigslist and see If you can get ahold of a student that didn’t go home. If not than just take a self guided tour and look up some info and interesting tid bits. God luck sounds like you are doing alot of 101 driving from slo and Santa cruz

Students who live on campus aren’t allowed to reside on campus until January 3, so no students will be around. I think the campus is open though, so if you just want to look around at the campus itself, I guess you could go. just know that very few people will be on campus when you go
