Would 2 C's and 2 B's mess my chances of acceptance??

I got a c in middle school bc of a retarded teacher and a c in my sophomore year bc of another retarded teacher. Also i got two b's my freshman year. Everything else are A's. Would these low grades matter in my acceptance to uva or other schools like UPENN wharton and UMross-preadmit??

With these grades my UW gpa is 3.85 and W 4.95
plus i have like the HARDEST courseload ever(IB Diploma candidate):

FRESHMAN- English 2 honors, Precal honors, AP World, Spanish 1 cp(didnt offer honors), Biology honors, Physical Science honors, PE(required)
SOPHOMORE- English 3 honors, AP AB calc, AP stats, AP compsci, Chemistry honors, Gov/econ Honors, Spanish 2 cp(didnt offer honors)
JUNIOR- IB Chem, IB Spanish, AP physics c, AP BC calc, AP US hist, IB Design, AP English
SENIOR- IB Theory of Kno, IB math HL, AP psych, IB english HL, IB spanish SL, AP/IB physics E&M SL, IB design HL

read your post, aztenisplaya, and see how it sounds. How old are you, eleven?

yea i know u think im like trying to show off or w/e but people say the getting in OOS is like getting into an ivy.

Also i would like to hear peoples opinions bc i would like to get accepted to wharton and ross preadmit

you got low grades because of “■■■■■■■■” teachers? Come on.

Is it going to hurt your chances…there is no way of telling because UVA looks at more than just grades…your ECS will matter too.

IB will help, what I find interesting is your course load…not saying you are exaggerating, but I have never ever heard of anybody taking Calc let alone AP as a soph. I am unaware of any middle school, unless private, that has Alg I, Alg II and Geometry…Alg I yes, geometry, possibly, but Alg II also… That means for you you took Pre-Alg in 5th grade a course that is given to the typical gifted child in 7th grade, and academically avg child in 8th. In our IB program you take IB precalc, functions and derivatives, (or another option I can’t remember) than Calc (which is IB…not AP)

Don’t know what state you are from, but our hs here in No.VA…has IB, the only one in the county, we have AP also, but you can’t do both routes…1 or the other b/c IB starts as a freshman and has a track…my DD was allowed to transfer into the IB program b/c we came from OOS (NC where there was an AP program), however her Math, Sci, Engl and History are all IB’s and there is a particular track that she must follow.

My only guess is that you are on semesters (4 X 4), which allows you to do dual tracks, however, knowing the IB program I am pretty amazed that you could have any ECS with that load.

The other infor you need to supply besides your gpa is how many of the APs did you score 4/5 on, b/c that will make a difference in how comp. you are. UVA will re-weight your GPA due to how weighting and grading can vary (90 in one area = A, in another it is a B). Your AP scores will show you on a level field across the nation.

Finally, you should show maturity…yes, you are a kid, but the grade you earned was from someone with a degree…last time I checked you do not have even a hs degree.

^^bullet:

I know of serveral kids in Calif who take Calc as Sophomores. They then load up on AP sciences Junior year (bio, physics, chem). And, yes, they are all obviously premed wannabees.

Okay so California offers Alg in 6th grade? WOW…in NoVA the only way you are taking Alg in 6th is if you are in private. Our Magnet (Thomas Jefferson aka TJ) doesn’t even require Calc. for a soph and you must compete for the slot academically or be nominated (my DS was nominated(he elected not to go), and my cousins son went there, so I am well aware of the programs. TJ has been ranked number 1 for the 2nd yr in a row by USNWR for Science and Tech, as a matter of fact it has been removed from the top 100 Public hs from Time and Newsweek b/c it is a magnet.

I am just amazed that any public middle school has the ability to create a class for a very small group, esp in these days of cut backs.

no i skipped alg 2 in 9th grade and went straight to precal. didnt feel like spending the whole year learning stuff i already knew. but all my math grades are 97 and above.

no im not on the 4x4 schedule. every state differs in terms of classes. I am pretty sure IB starts your junior year in every state. In our school we are able to do both the ap and the ib exams for a single class if the ap is offered.

Well what about your EC’s are they competitive?

Almost every college would take the kid with a lower gpa, but also has been in a sport, clubs and worked a job over the perfect academic student. The reason why is as a freshman there are studies that show kids who are academically brilliant do not do as well as the lower academic kids that had ECS, b/c the lower academic students learned time mgmt and tend to make a smoother transition.

In VA you do the IGSCE program for freshman and that is your start for the IB

You’re in there should be no worries…you have the total package

…UVA doesn’t get copies of your middle school grades…?!

I’m OOS and I got a C in Physics junior year. I got in. To be fair, I did get deferred first.

My school’s math (Philly suburb) for highest track went: 6th prealg, 7th alg1, 8th alg2, 9th geom, 10th trig/precalc, 11th AB, 12th BC.

PS. No one from Philly calls it “UPenn.” It’s just Penn. Penn is not Penn State.

ok well thank u guys for all the replies

Definitely NOT in California. The m/s kids who want to accelerate in math need to schlep to the HS for class. Currently, some m/s offer Geom, but that is still kinda rare.
