Hi all!
I’m new to this forum. I have enjoyed all the great tips/various forums that I have read so far! I have a question. Would a double major in Biomedical Engineering and General Chemistry make sense? I love both Bio and Chem, and I feel that would give me the best of both worlds. I currently have a 4.0 GPA in HS. I have taken rigorous course loads each year as well. I plan on possibly going to Med School, but I want a good degree to fall back on (Hence why I chose Biomedical Engineering instead of Gen Bio-- I don’t want to teach). Any comments, tips, etc are appreciated! TIA!
A double major in two sciences would be very rigorous. It would be extremely hard considering many struggle with just one science major. Is there any way to maybe major in one and minor in the other? Or just have one major?
It’s not the two sciences that would concern me - plenty of people double major in biology and chemistry, or math and computer science - but rather the engineering + something else. Engineering is often difficult to complete on its own in 4-5 years; adding another major makes it even harder.
You could minor in chemistry. Or you could just take a bunch of chemistry classes.
Also, you don’t have to teach if you major in biology. There’s a lot of other things you can do.
Majoring in engineering plus a science plus needing to keep up a premed GPA sounds very stressful.
Make sure you leave time in your life for premed extracurriculars (such as research and volunteering), fun extracurriculars, and possibly a student job if your parents aren’t paying 100% of your expenses.
