Okay, here’s the deal. I’m 26 years old. Have been at a local community college on and off for a few semesters since age 17. I never took the SAT as I got my GED early. I’m actually a little gifted, just had a lot of issues earlier in life. I suffer from mental illness, schizophrenia. I actually have it quite under control now using orthomolecular therapy. The reason I mention this is because when I was ill, I made a lot of bad decisions. Two of my semesters I didn’t finish or drop. Basically, the grades I completed were A’s & B’s, however, my overall GPA, is now under 2! Something like 1.89…
My question is, how much will a University weigh an ACT score overall? I plan on studying for a September 12th testing date. I’m not going to stop studying until I ace all of the practice exams. If I score high enough, will a university take that into high consideration despite my dismal GPA?
I’m thinking I can get several recommendations. One even from my doctor explaining my disease. It won’t fully excuse my past actions, but I don’t think it could hurt. Just looking for suggestions here. Am I simply screwed from this point on, or is there some chance?
