Would a law firm sponsor a work visa?

Are you sure it is not a work visa instead?

My son-in-law, a Canadian graduated from a US law school and is an attorney at a top NYC law firm for 6 years. He is still on a TN visa (NAFTA visa for N. American professionals), His firm has hired many British citizens but he isn’t sure whether they have a work visa or green cards.

My daughter has just submitted application for a green card for him and they have been married for more than 2 years. He wasn’t in a hurry to change his status.

I also wish to add that the British nationals working at my SIL’s firm all graduated from law schools in the UK. There are many graduates from Irish law schools as well. Some have LLM from US schools.
