I have currently a 1.8 GPA and I will be able to bring that up this semester. ( I had many fammily issues the last 10 years but I geuss those are just excuses.) My GPA should be able to go up over a 2.1 after this first semester of senior year and I was woundering if there was any way ANY college (not a Comunity college) that would take me in for a physics major. I am currently taking AP Chemistry and AP Enviromental science and doing wounderfull and expect to get a 3.8-4.0 this semester. Would that be enough for them to see I am college material? I have only taken 1 AP class before (failed it). My ACT score is a 30 and I got a 720 math and 580 verbal on the SAT. I also plan to take the SAT subject tests in chemistry, physics and maybe math. So as you can see I have failed manny classes, but and have only taken up to Algebra 2 (though I already know first half of calculus one that has to do with derivatives so I know I can do well in math.) Alright, that was a lot of run on sentences as I am off to practice, if anyone could let me know if a college would accept me please reply :)

There is probably a college that will accept you, I am not too familiar with schools that accept students with your stats though. I plugged your current GPA and ACT score into the SuperMatch here on CC and several colleges came up. That being said I would recommend community college and then a transfer. Your scores suggest that you are rather smart, but your grades will limit where you can go. It would probably benefit you in the long run to do community college and then transfer to a school with a strong physics program.

If you can pull a 3.8-4.0 for a semester with a difficult course load and have 30 ACT, there are many colleges that will ‘take a chance’ on you. Talk to your GC and make a plan.

Try state flagship school branch campus like Penn State Abington, for example, instead of penn state UPark

If i recall, there are dozens of colleges that will take you solely on your ACT/SAT score and give you a full ride. There is a specific thread on CC somewhere XD.

I have not heard of such college’s that accept you with only SAT/ACT scores???
Also to the people who say some colleges would give me a chance do you have any idea which schools I should apply for? I am not taking a terribly hard semester that will prove to them I have what it takes but it is definatly the hardest in comparison to what I have done before.
Oh and the college’s would have to accept applications after the first semester of high school (so I can raise my 1.8 GPA)

State school

Gets me everytime…how in the f*** is someone with a 1300 SAT score going to WASTE their potential like that and get a 1.8 GPA. With your knowledge, even 100% standard classes and electives could bring you to above a 3.0…and that’s with doing hw every day in class and studying 5 minutes before quizzes and tests.

You’re killing me, bro. But yes, there’s a college that will take you. I can find one for you if you tell me the state you live in.

There are many problems I had durring school which cause me to get a low GPA, though I still consider these excuses as I am sure I could have gotten homework done somehow. Also I do not think it is possible to bring up my GPA that much…1.8 is in the core classes and I have taken many of these. I live in California by the way, but have no problem going out of state to study physics.

You should try. The chance will die the last.

The problem with recommending a specific school, is that most of us don’t have experience with students with statistics like yours. So anything we said would be a guess.

I think that you need to discuss this with a guidance counsellor or a college counsellor – that is someone who is a professional and who advises students for a living.

plus a few more colleges that take you solely on your ACT with merit aid.

Try West Virginia University of Arizona State University, their both decent (althought they party HARD) schools and have around a 90% acceptance rate. Good luck!
