<p>Foreign girls love to teach their man their language, and are often very turned on at even the slightest bit of progress you make. Even if your pronunciation is way off, they can't get enough of it as long as they see you are genuinely making the effort.</p>
<p>Furthermore, most foreign women know at least a bit of English. University-educated ones generally know a lot. (unless they are Spanish or Italian, but those are two of the easiest languages to pick up anyway so no biggie)</p>

<p>But I did meet a Japanese woman at a disco in Asia and the only language we had somewhat in common was Chinese. But we were most communicative in other ways. ;)</p>
<p>In my experience, women who are so impressed that you are trying to their language are generally poorer and less educated than the guy who is talking to them. If they are more educated, they probably already speak a bit of English as you noted. And if they are wealthier, they won't be as likely to waste their time on American guys who butcher their language and likely don't know or respect their culture.</p>
<p>Agreed bedhead. Genuine effort is key, not just learning a couple of pickup lines and profanities. (as most guys do because most guys are lame) I don't mean just a couple of words in the bar, but actually at home together, spending an hour or so learning some basic conversation that you remember and actually use from time to time.</p>
<p>Anyway, even with the language barrier, I'll take eastern european, asian, or african, over dutch, canadian, or american nearly everytime, simply because I think American pop-culture trashiness has eroded much of the perceived value of a committed relationship amongst young women who have been bombarded with unhealthy images for most of their lives.</p>

<p>If there were reasons I would choose one type of woman over another, it would be for reasons similar to this...i.e., cultural reasons. In the US, I find it hard to find people who understand committed relationships and real friendships. A French friend who is living here now told me she thinks friend has a completely different meaning here than it does in France. Having lived in Germany I realize this too. I am just not sure I'd pick the same causes for those cultural reasons -- i.e. American pop-culture trashiness.</p>
<p>the latin/mediterranean cultures tend to be VERY paternalistic. just look at the Catholic Church. but the germanics tend to be lessly bound to tradition. this is what makes them so different from the rest of the world cultures.</p>
<p>thus, i think i will prefer a woman that comes from a background of rich tradition from which i can learn. by the way, i kind of like the idea of male dominace so inherent in asian, africa, southern european cultures. it kind of makes the women servile and thus a bit more effeminate. most of western women are too independant and self-confident that they have masculin qualities which scare me.</p>
