i got of to a pretty slow start in hs and my freshman year gpa and 1st semester sophomore year grades were pretty poor. however since then my gpa has been steadily increasing:

freshman:3.3, 3.5
sophomore:3.2, 3.8
junior: 4.3, 4.4
total weighted gpa after junior year: 3.73
uw: 3.5
estimated gpa first semester senior year: 4.3

i am in almost all honors classes, have a 2100 sat, 32 act, and have decent ec's (200+ hrs volunteering at hospital, 50+ hrs shadowing a doctor, varsity tennis, all suburban jazz saxophonist). however im in like the top 25% of my class now and should be top 20% after first semester.

do i have any chance at all?

Everyone has a chance, its just a matter of how good that chance will be.

How many APs have you taken? What is the break down of your SAT score.

Top 20%/25% won't look too great. What is the size of your graduating class?

3.5 GPA is a good GPA, but that depends on what classes you have been taking (e.g. APs).

Give me the above info. and I can better "chance" you.

5 ap classes out of the offered 7, 700's all around sat, 500 people in my class at competitive public school.

thanks for the quick replies

The fact that you took 5 of the 7 is good. I would try to go for the other two, if possible, during your Senior year. That would show greatest effort.

700/700/700 is a great SAT score and well within Emory's range.

On the other hand, your rank won't look so great. Maybe if you can try to pull it to the 20% level, it would look a little better.

Your ECs look good. I would try to get those two APs and write a great essay. You definitely have a decent chance, but the rank is really holding you back.

What State are you applying from? Are you a URM?

Also, are you planning on doing ED or RD?

thank you dell123 for the replies i am applying from missouri. and im most probably applying rd, but I'm not sure, i might apply ed

No problem. I try to be as upfront and honest as possible. Applying RD will be even tougher and decrease your chance %.

What other Universities are you looking at? What is your intended future major?

im not exactly sure where im applying but heres a preliminary reaches list, which i will pick a couple to apply to:
U of michigan
U of wisconsin
rice
jhu
pomona
colgate
claremont mckenna
cornell
washu
northwestern
(most probably not the last 3 since i know i have basically have no chance at)

and i am doing premed/biology

I would also throw an app. to University of Miami. It's a good safety for you. You definitely have a nice list of schools there, wish you the best.

those schools are ALL OVER THE PLACE as far as geography, academic strengths, size, and basically everything in between. have you thought about what you want out of college other than a good premed/biology program?

i know it's only a preliminary list, but this is the summer before senior year for you and it's time to start figuring out what it is exactly that your looking for.
