I appreciate your taking the time to take a look, this is my first post and I’ve been reading college confidential for years so I was wondering how I will suit up. I saw another user’s excellently ordered similar thread so I will try to be as clear and organized with my resume.
My top choice schools are the University of Virginia, William and Mary.
My reach schools are Brown BS/MD, WashU BS/MD, Duke, Northwestern, Cornell, etc.
My safety schools are Virginia Tech and Baylor.
My current GPA is 4.71, unweighted around 3.88.
My SAT score is a 1540.
My Extracurriculars are as follows:
- Varsity women’s Crew (rowing team), former JV water polo player, former frosh soph
- president of the Honors Society at my school
- captain of speech and debate, National Forensics Finalist twice for Extemporaneous Speech
- team captain of four Team America Rocketry Challenge (TARC) teams, twice national finalists
- winner of multiple awards at the Orange County Science and Engineering fair
- founder of my own non - profit
- More than 500 hours of volunteer service
- Webmaster of the Latin Club website
- Model United Nations delegate since 2014 with multiple awards
- (what I can’t remember I will update, I have a spreadsheet on my other computer with a whole list of what I do)
AP(s) taken with known scores:
- AP World History (5)
- AP US History (5)
- AP Lang (5)
- AP Calc AB (4)
- AP Computer Science (3)
- AP Physics 1 (4)
AP(s) which I will be taking next year:
- AP Chemistry
- AP Biology
- AP Calculus BC
- AP Lit
- AP gov / comparative
- AP Latin
Things of note:
I got two B’s in sophomore year but I want to note that I moved cross country halfway through my sophomore year (1 semester west coast, the other east coast). I got a B first semester junior ear for Physics but ended the year with all A’s.
Does anyone think I remotely have a chance at my top choice / reach schools? (I am an in state resident) Is that 3 going to kill my chances? (I am planning to go pre - med)
Thanks!
I think you are likely to get into William and Mary, and you also have a good chance for Virginia. I could also see you getting into one of your reach schools.
Thanks, I appreciate the reply. Do you think I have a shot at specifically the BS/MD programs?
Unfortunately, you don’t have a chance for BS/MD programs. You have a good chance of getting into those schools in general, but in order to get into any BS/MD program, you need to have years of experience shadowing doctors and research experience. If you have this and didn’t mention it, it’s possible but without this, you won’t get into a dual enrollment program.
Have you taken any SAT Subject Tests? Northwestern in particular is the only one of your top/reach schools I’ve looked at, and they require three SAT Subject Tests to apply.
As to whether the 3 will kill your chances, it won’t. AP’s don’t really count for much other than getting you credit for classes so that you can skip them in college. If you don’t take Comp Sci in college for pre-med, then it won’t matter. If you do have to take it, then either the 3 will be acceptable or they’ll make you take the class. Either way, it won’t affect you getting into the college.
Your SAT score will be in the top 25% for either Virginia or William & Mary (from the sites below). You can look up the SAT results for all your reach schools online, which can help you get an idea of how likely you are to get in.
Obviously you’d make it into Virginia Tech or Baylor, unless they don’t think you’re actually interested in them. I’d say you make it into Virginia and William & Mary too. That’s a really good SAT score (same as mine )
That AP slate for this year could be a killer, especially bio and chem lol. I wish you the best of luck with those and with your admission chances!

Thanks for all the feedback. Will that 3 ruin my chances of Ivies? Would I even have a shot at said Ivies?
The BS / MD is most likely not gonna happen @thalaya , as if I want to change my course in college I don’t want to be locked in. Thanks for the feedback though!
The 3 will not ruin any of your chances considering that you do not want to major in computer science.
IDK if I am allowed to do this, but I do have updates to my profile, if anyone would like to re-chance me for Cornell, Harvard, Ivy Leagues, etc.

Not sure if that really does anything but still wondering how my shot is for the big league.
