Would anyone please chance me?

Asian male
Home Schooled
Low income family

GPA: 4.12 (given by my parents as I am homeschooled--standardized test scores are supposed to be more important in these cases)
SAT: 680 CR, 800 Math, 730 WR, 11 Essay
ACT: 35 COMP, 35 Eng, 34 Math, 35 Reading, 36 Sci, 32 E/W, 9 Essay
SAT 2s: 800 Math 2, 790 Lit, 790 Chinese w/list, 780 Phy, 780 Chem (got a 720 first time took), 710 US Hist (took twice - both times 710).

No APs yet, but I'm taking physics, chemistry, English, and Chinese later in May.

Lived in a remote small city in China for about three years. Talked about the experience in my essays, which were written well. I don't think they were amazing, in terms of the actual writing, but they were pretty good already. The content was of course, a plus.

Sent a letter about homeschooling, basically turning the perceived downsides of homeschooling into pluses.

ECs: Swim team for three years, two hours daily. Weiqi club for two school years, met three days a week. Chinese calligraphy twice a week in 12th grade. Learned web design for a year, was on the basketball team for a year.

Interned for a doctor in Taiwan as research assistant for three months.

Community service:
Taught English in China - 100 hours. Not much, but yeah....
Coached Basketball for primary school kids - 70 hours.

I'm in my gap year now, and I'm studying basically... As well as taking some other classes, working, and helping out with the family business.

Recommendation letters from my dad (as home school teacher), swim coach, doctor I interned for, and old teacher in junior high (I only had online teachers in high school who didn't know me that well). They were all very positive.

I applied for 19 schools, as a physics major. :P

HYPS
MIT
Cal Tech
Williams
Middlebury
Amherst
Pomona
Columbia
Chicago
Cornell
Northwestern
WUSTL
Rice
Hopkins
Carnegie Mellon
Vanderbilt

Please chance me! Thank you! =)

you have really good stats. the stuff you've done in gap year sounds interesting. chicago, carnegie mellon, vanderbilt, hopkins, rice, northwestern, WUSTL, cornell-maybe all matches or slight reaches? HYPSMC and columbia are probably reaches, but then they're reaches for almost everyone.

Agree with xphage. You won't get into all the schools, but you'll get into a substantial number. Carnegie Mellon, Vanderbilt, Cornell, Rice, Pomona most likely. Maybe Middlebury and U of Chicago. HPYS, MIT, Cal Tech, Columbia and the rest, who knows. They all can be pretty random in their acceptances.

Alright, thanks guys! It's good that I got a good score on the literature... Good for well-roundedness.

If I could get into Chicago, Cornell, or Middlebury, I'd be uber happy! I hope, I hope, I hope.

So you think I could have a good chance at Chicago or Cornell? What about Williams? (I applied ED for Williams, and was rejected, but didn't have the physics and lit scores yet).

If you applied ED to Williams and were rejected, you don't get another chance in the admissions process.

Oh sorry, I was deferred. :P Anyone else?

well you do have a great ACT score , but you are an international applicant so i know that may hurt your chances sometimes

No, I'm a US citizen--born here, just lived in China for three years...

Bumpppity bump.

I'm especially concerned about Chicago, Cornell, Williams, and Middlebury, as I'm on the line at those schools... Any opinions?

Another bump? :P Thanks in advance!

Why did you move to China and opt for homeschooling instead of attending an American public school (especially since you're an American citizen)?

Well, I was homeschooled all my life... And I don't know, my parents wanted me to experience the Chinese culture and understand my roots? But I enjoyed it a lot and learned a lot, and definitely don't regret it. I assume I might have a better chance at colleges had I gone to a regular school... But China helps the diversity and experience factor in admissions.

Well it's nice that you appreciate your background. I think you have slightly better chances as a homeschooled applicant if you can prove that it has made you a better person. It seems like it will all come down to your essays/recs and how forgiving colleges are in regards to your financial contraints. Good luck!

Ahh, okay, thank you so much! =)
I can't wait for the decisions, I can't wait, haha.
Anybody else?

Bu-bu-bu-bump. =)
