just what the title says

..........No.............

no, it's considered seperate; if you get accepted to Wharton, you may or may not get the dual program

^^ you got it backwards. they consider the dual degree apps first, and the ones they don't want are sent to the wharton ppl...

so in a sense, your chances are boosted in that you might have something the dual degree ppl look for and they will take u on the spot.

Whaat, technically you are correct regarding the order. But, considering that the dual degree programs are far more selective than the single degree options, it still doesn't increase the chances of getting into Wharton.

There are people in joint degree programs who may not have gotten into Wharton through the single degree option because the admissions committee merely demands that candidates of joint degree programs be qualified to handle the work of both schools, not necessarily that they should have been able to get into each school individually (although it's impossible to speculate on this due to the unpredictability of admissions decisions). But do NOT apply to a joint degree program if you don't sincerely want to stay in.

In short, apply to a program if you truly like it, but not to get into Wharton. Be honest.

From what I gather, the dual-degree programs are A LOT more selective than Wharton or CAS by itself, and applying to a dual-degree WILL NOT help you get into Wharton. If you got into the dual-degree, you could have gotten into Wharton alone 99% of the time.

If you apply to any school for a reason other than you genuinely wanting to be there, you are hurting your chances.

Apply for where you want to be. If you really are passionate about attending, it will show on your application and the admissions committee will notice it.

ehhhh..

a lot of my friends in wharton did not even know much about business when they applied as high school seniors; they applied solely for the name and prestige.

and the international students i know (mostly asian) that were admitted through the engineering school have internally transfered to wharton.

i feel that college admissions is just a crap-shoot most of the time. if you think that you'd have a better chance applying to cas or engin, do it. you never know what'll happen, and you could apply to internally transfer or consider dual degree options once you are a penn student.
