I want to take Bio, US, and Math II. Would Barron's for each of these be the best for getting an 800.

For Math II, yes. I don’t know about the others.

Thanks! Can anyone vouch for the other two?

Barron’s is good for math and bio, horrible for USH. Use Crash Course or AMSCO for USH.

Is the Barron’s for Math harder than the actual test… because I flipped a few pages and got a little freaked out.

yeah Barron’s is extremely harder than the actual test
i prepared with it and was making mid 500s on the Barron’s tests and made 700 on the actual Math IIC test

Barrons is not the way to go for US History. Total waste of time and money.

I read this in the topic of best prep book:

Barron’s (F+, H)
This book is MUCH harder than the real thing, and the recommender got 30-40 mistakes on each practice test despite getting an 800 for the actual test. Use if if you want to be very well prepared, but do not fret over a bad score, because it is highly inaccurate. Note: The recommender for this book is the same as the one for the AMSCO book.
Recommender’s score: 800.

And already bought it, darn it! So, it’s really not good? I have amsco, so I will probably just return it.

Also, Barron’s would be the best for getting a 800 in bio and math II, right? Anyone suggest anything better?

If you want your brain to explode from too much unnecessary information and frustrating scores, buy Barron’s.

Otherwise, get Princeton.

Seriously, while learning more than what’s necessary might help people better understand a subject, all that unnecessary information will make it more difficult to keep track of everything you have to know.

I’ve got Barron’s for Math and Bio. The bio book isn’t overly difficult, but the math is. But this is probably because I remember most of the stuff I learned in AP last year.

Is the PR for APUSH really a bad study guide for the US subject test? I used it for AP and it got me a 5 so I’m confused at why people say it sucks.

Look at this thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-subject-tests-preparation/358168-list-best-review-books-10.html?highlight=official+sat+books

I like Barron’s for bio. It’s much more organized and indepth. Of course there might be too much info, but better than too little.

I agree, the Barron’s book is great for bio. And I don’t think there’s too much info in it at all. I’m just reviewing my biology knowledge and I feel like the Barron’s book doesn’t cover every little picky detail you might pick up. So it’s not too hard.

Tips on the USH, that thread has too many recommendations for US history, so I’m not sure. PR from AP is enough right?

I just bought the Barron’s SAT Math II book. It’s entertaining, though not as hard as I expected.

The beginning of it is pretty easy, I’m sure it gets harder though.

^ The diagnostic test doesn’t look difficult - I did the last ten problems (hardest, right?) and got them all right. I’ll do the whole thing properly tomorrow.

Barron’s for USH has so much unnecessary information…it has a copy of the declaration of independence and I think the constitution as well. And the funny thing is, the author expects you to read it all haha.

I’m pushing my way through though as I’ve already read Amsco and CC multiple times (wanted something new). The organization of chapters by presidents is quite nice once you get used to it :).

I’d say if you’ve already got Barron’s for USH, don’t return it. I’m sure you’ll find it useful in someway (just don’t rely on their practice tests…hard as hell!)

How is Barrons for SAT Chem??

It has sooo much info…probably too much but it’s still nice review. Are the practice tests harder than the actual? (I’m guessing they are…since that’s what Barrons is known for haha)

I also have Princeton Review for the AP exam so I guess I’ll practice out of that too since I never got time to do an actual practice test before the AP exam. I like the review section in PR much better too

Thanks for the info SwaGGeReR. I read some reviews of it on Amazon and people are saying there are a bunch of mistakes. What’s your point of view?

I used it for bio this past may. It was effective in teaching/reviewing material, but the scores on practice tests are not representative (in my experience) of actual scores. I got a 420 on the diagnostic (being a year out of bio, maybe thats right) but I routinely scored no higher than ~700 on practice tests after working through the book. I got a 770 on the actual thing. ymmv.
