Would BU make a good safety for me?

By safety I mean am I basically guaranteed acceptance if I apply? I visited BU this summer and loved the campus and I would really like to know that if I got rejected to all my other reaches, I could depend on getting accepted at BU. The other schools I’m looking to apply to are USC, UCLA, BC, UMIAMI, UT AUSTIN, WAKE FOREST, CARNEGIE MELLON, UCSD, UCI

Academics:

GPA (UW): 3.5 (although my school doesn’t calculate weighted, my weighted GPA is probably around 4.1 maybe 4.2)
Class Rank: No idea my school doesn’t rank
SAT: 1510/1600 (770 M + 740 CR)
SAT: 2140/2400 (770 M + 740 CR + 630 W)
SAT II: Math I 750, Chemistry 760 (going to take Math II, hopefully 700+)
APs: AP CHEM (4), AP US HISTORY (4)
Class Rigour: I’ve taken as many honors courses as possible, I took 2 AP classes (Chem, US) my junior year and this year I’m taking 4 APs (BIO, ECON, CALC, GOV)

ECs:

-~50 volunteer hours
-Interned at a software company during the summer of 11’ and 12’. (Writing my essay about this)
-4 years varsity track
-1 year varsity soccer
-4 years in film club
-Executive producer of film club during my senior year
-Elected onto student council my senior year (secretary)

Misc Info:
I’m thinking of majoring in Economics.
I’m asian (Indian)
I’m from NY (OOS)
My senior year GPA is on par to be 3.9 which is a big improvement
My parents can afford to pay full tuition (no financial aid is needed)

And so that is pretty much all I can think of right now. Please let me know if I’m missing anything because I as I’m writing right now I’m getting a feeling that I’m missing some vital piece of information. Anyways thanks for reading and chancing me.

Your SAT is high but your GPA is low for BU. BU would be a match, not a safety.

I think you would be a competitive applicant at BU. I’m a senior in the dual degree Management and Economics (BUCOP) program and am pretty remorseful on my decision to attend BU. My applicant profile or “statistics” if you will are fairly in line with yours, and I applied to several of the same schools you listed above. The BU econ department is fairly strong but don’t be disappointed when you find many of your courses taught by PhD students. Without getting too ahead of yourself I think it is worthwhile for you to consider what you plan on doing with your degree when you leave BU. If you have any interest in going into banking I’d steer you away only because BU is a non-core school for many of the investment banks. Our finance opportunities are limited to the likes of Fidelity, General Electric, and Target (yes the retail store). Many students wanting to go into finance from BU also concentrate in accounting at SMG and begin their careers at Big 4 firms who recruit fairly extensively here.

If you have any questions feel free to ask away or send me a message.
