So me and someone else from my school have applied ED to the same college. ECs-wise we are the same and testing is similar too. I am in the top 5% of my class while the other student is not. Our school grades on the 100 point scale and ranks on this scale too. As a result, my few 89s did not impact my GPA or rank that much. However, I know colleges convert to a 4.0 scale where an 89 is equivalent to 80. This means that the other student who is lower ranked than me has a higher GPA on the 4.0 scale since that students transcript was filled with 90s, while mine was filled with 89s and 96s. How do colleges view this?
They don’t care what other students did they will get your transcript and decide whether you are a good candidate
And look for your understanding of the process. Not all colleges convert and getting an admit is far more than gpa or rank. That, along with transcript, is just one element.
I don’t know that they think of an 89 as an 80. That’s a leap. Rather, they may see an 89 as a B. Many hs give an A to 90-100 points. Does your GC provide a School Report with the bracket numbers for excellent, VG, etc?
I think it’ll probably come down to essays. I think that GPA and rank are both important. GPA is probably more important, but rank shows more of how you’ve done in comparison to others while also kind of showing how competitive your school may be, if that makes sense. If it’s only a couple of grades, it will be a very minor difference and I don’t think it’ll have as big of an impact as you think.
