Probably the highest recommendation I can give is to tell you after my oldest enrolled ( now a senior) and loved UR, my second child followed her there (he’s now a sophomore). They both are having very good experiences.
I will point out that my daughter enrolled really undecided on major. UR seems to welcome this and allows free reign to explore. She went from thinking poli sci and ended up an optical engineering major…something she never would have considered as a high schooler but she absolutely loves the major, has had great internships, and a job lined up almost a year before graduation.
Hi @creekland I think our children probably know each other now. My daughter is a freshman at UR this year. You answered some of our questions here last year. She’s doing bio-med and also ASL this semester and involved in crew. She, and us, are so happy with UR. She loves it and everything we’ve experienced so far has been wonderful too. Hoping our financial aid stays pretty steady for this next year.
@Yokennyr Glad to hear it’s going well for your daughter too! My guy is satisfied with his MCAT. Now he just awaits to see if those scoring it agree with him.
My daughter is a freshman at UR and loves it. She’s interested in public health/infectious disease and med school is one of the post-grad options that she’s keeping open at this point. Creekland’s post summed up the Rochester “experience” very well based on my daughter’s time there—classes are hard, but not cut-throat competitive; lots of opportunities to get involved in research; good health-professions advising; several on-campus clubs for those interested in health professions (my daughter is involved with GlobeMed, for example).
