Would doing this be challenging or worth it?

A couple of the colleges I want to apply to require SAT subject tests, and I realized that a significant amount of material on the test is learned through AP classes. The problem is I am doing the IB program, and

A. Although I am taking Biology HL I found out that what I am learning now is only 30% of the test if not less, and
B. I'm taking 20th century history, and I haven't studied US history for a couple of years, but I have heard that it is a relatively easy test if you study from an AP book or something like that.

My questions:
For the Bio M subject test, would I be able to do well (700+) if I study from a SAT subject help book? Is it enough? Or, would I need to study from an AP bio book as well?
Now for the US history subject test, should I even take it? Can I still do well if if I study from just a SAT subject help book/AP book, and never really taking any classes that cover the material on the test?

Please recommend any books you think would be the most helpful for someone that doesn't know all the material coming on the tests.
