Would Duke be good for me?

I’m afraid I can’t comment on the indie music/concerts, so hopefully someone else will drop by to help you on that. (I vaguely remember reading something about some Indie bands in The Chronicles, but I’m afraid I don’t remember much from it.)

However, about Greek Life and etc, about 40% (more or less) of the student body is actually in a sorority or fraternity. I am definitely not one of them. I don’t feel like I lose out from this, simply because I have not particular interest in large parties. I’m also not huge into sports (before I came to Duke, anyway). I am an admitted football fan and was crushed that Duke football is less-than-stellar, but I actually had no interest in Duke basketball before I arrived. However, some of the sports hype is less about the sports itself, and more about just showing some school spirit, supporting the team, and having fun. Therefore, while sports are a big part of the social life here, you can easily find people who couldn’t care less.

While I don’t attend music concert, Duke and Durham have a pretty big performance entertainment section it seems. This means plays, musicals, or dance performances, in addition to classical music concerts. I’m not sure if that falls for any of your interest, but if it does, it’s pretty easy to get tickets to both Duke production and professional productions.

Sorry I couldn’t be of more help! Good luck!

EDIT: I did find this though. Not sure how accurate it is, but maybe it’ll be of some help? (There’s a bus that runs from Duke to UNC-Chapel Hill, by the way. )
