Would family issues count for this scholarship?

Family issues lasted about a year.</p>

<p>I think the schools have in mind kids growing up in homeless shelters, not kids who lived thru a nasty divorce.</p>

<p>That is the only criteria or the main criteria?</p>

<p>UCs will have applications from students who grew up very poor, parents deceased, foster homes, drug addict parents etc.</p>

<p>I think having ill family members, including mental illness, having to act as a parental figure due to circumstances, having a parent in detention or deported, being abducted by a parent could all count too…</p>
