Would having a joint major be beneficial when applying to grad school?

Hi,

I'm an undergraduate freshman and I'm stuck between Computer Science and Mathematics. I found out recently, however, that my school offers a joint major in both fields. However, I plan to apply to graduate school for Mathematics. In the admissions process, would having a second major in a field that complements Mathematics be an advantage or would it be wiser to just stick with Mathematics and get a minor in Comp Sci?

Thank you.

Computer science might help you for applied math, but not pure math. It might be too early for you to decide which now which one you prefer.

If you do end up going into pure math, you want to take as many math courses as you can because your math background will put an upper limit on the selectivity of the graduate program that you can apply to.

Yes, I’m definitely doing applied mathematics rather than pure mathematics. I guess I’ll just continue taking Comp Sci and Math courses until I finally decide to joint major or not.

Thank you for your help.
