Right now I'm a freshman at UT Arlington, and I'm doing a program which allows me to automatically transfer to UT Austin next year. I was looking to apply to a few other schools so that I could just keep my options open. Vanderbilt is a great school and if I could be admitted there I would certainly consider going. I went to high school in Canada but I'm an American citizen.

I got a 1920 on my SAT which I realize is not in Vanderbilts range. In High School I had a 3.7 GPA on a 4.0 scale. Right now I'm taking 15 hours and I have a 4.0. I've been working pretty hard and I think I just might be able to keep it up. How heavily will Vandy consider my High School stats vs. my university stats? By the end of the year I should have 31 credit hours.

Do you think that I should maybe take the ACT and try to do well on that? Thanks for the input.

Yes your standardized test scores are low for V., but your GPA is not bad at all. Do you have any ec's??? if so that will help you to drastically stand out.

I like to think my extra-cirriculars were pretty good. Student Council, Student Athletic Council, Debate Team, Model UN and about 250 volunteer hours. Right now I have an internship with a production company that's filming a reality TV show. It's a pretty neat gig and if the show makes it on TV then I think it would look pretty good on my resume. I'm thinking I may take the ACT in December, just to see what happens. Worst case scenario I bomb it and I just don't send it out, best case I do pretty well. I scored a 31 on a practice test so that was kind of encouraging. I'm not sure how much Vandy would consider the test because it's used to see how well one will perform in College. The way I look at it the admissions committee can have a better indication of my performance in college just by looking at my transcript. meh.

I agree that you should take the ACT. Your GPA is good, but you are also trying to transfer from UT-Arlington to Vandy, which is quite a jump. Anything that can improve your application academically (such as a higher test score) will help you in the end.

As for your high school records, they will be used quite a bit since you'll only have one year of college grades (unless I've read wrong).

Oh, and don't worry a/b how colleges view the score. Send it anyways. If you score well, they can't help but see it (even if for a split second) and it will have a positive impact on your academic ability.

Your score and GPA really aren't that competitive for Vandy. Its good that you are working hard at UT, but I would still say that its a pretty big stretch...
