Would I be able to get a good score on the AP World History exam without taking the class?

My school doesn’t offer AP WH, however, I am currently taking AP European History and I took world history last year. World History is an especially interesting topic for me so I was wondering if you guys think I could get at least a 4 with my knowledge of the AP Euro course and basic world history (along with a lot of studying of course).

btw, I am a sophomore and have not taken any AP tests yet.

I think if you are going to take the World AP Exam without taking the World AP course, taking it the same year as the Euro AP course/exam is a good idea.

My kids’ school also does not offer World AP, but offers some review sessions for World Honors students (freshmen) if they would like to take the AP test.

My daughter went the same route you are thinking - taking both exams sophomore year. She did well on both exams and didn’t seem like she was affected too much by not having world history for a year. She did attend the review sessions last year and studied a review book to refresh her World knowledge.

You can self study and get a good score. However, in terms of college admissions nobody will really care. I suggest your time would be better spent doing as well as you can in the classes you are taking and making meaningful contributions to ECs.

It’s certainly possible. The material is available, video coursework is available, preparation books are (or will be) available. Given the investment of enough time, you can learn enough to do well.

The question is - why? If for personal fulfillment - you enjoy history and are using it as a goal to continue your motivation, that’s great. If it’s to help in college admissions - it won’t.
