You seem to have sort of pigeonholed yourself a bit. A significant majority of your application is too science and math related and just in general too academic related and makes your application a bit unbalanced. Hopefully, you are taking AP classes that are not science or math related. That said there are many kids who get in with similar applications to yours but there are also many rejected.

In addition, it seems like you are trying to convey who you are and what you are interested in an undiverse and somewhat uninteresting way. You will no doubt fair well in terms of the objective aspect of the admissions decision process but it is really a toss up about how well you will fair during the subjective part of it.

Some advice for making your application represent the well rounded, intelligent, young lady you probably are:
1.) Take a non-science/non-math SAT II subject test like US History.

2.) When applying to schools that are known for more than just their sciences make sure to emphasize the fact that you are well rounded. When given the opportunity to talk about an activity on the common application perhaps choose one that is not science or math related. (Overemphasizing your love of science and math is not a bad thing when applying to MIT, etc.)

3.) Do not let your good test scores make you feel overly confident that you will be admitted. That sort of attitude will show in your application. (If you are overly confident you probably will not feel it as necessary to write stellar, insightful essays.

4.) Myabe get a part-time job this summer at a grocery store, etc. so that you will appear to be well rounded.

5.) Choose teachers who actually like you and know you to write your recommendations.

Honestly, though you have good test scores and what not, you will probably have to try the well rounded approach I was talking about. In order to go the super-smart-academic-science/math-lover-undiverse-interests route you really have to be the best of the best. I would say you are pretty good, but I do not know if you are the best of the best. I think your best shot to make it into highly selective schools is to go the well rounded route.

P.S.
You have a "semi-hook." You are a female that is clearly interested and successful in sciences and math. You will definitely stand out in nearly any applicant pool.

Thanks for the helpful response and support!

As for humanities, I am going to take SAT US History. I am also taking 2 humanities APs this year (English Lang and US) and 4 senior year (Eng Lit, European, Gov&Politics, and...Econ? if that counts). In middle school, I was the biggest history person everr...however unfortunately there's not much of that in my application. Perhaps I can make it up by spending lots of time on my essays?

Has anyone from your school been admitted SCEA before in the past?

LOL, don't try to be "well rounded", no one cares about that.

Just do stuff you like and are good at, be successful in it, present yourself as a living breathing fun-loving human (and if your idea of fun is doing science research, it's totally fine! just come alive in your application), apply, and see what happens. You'll be fine at the end.

BTW, YOU DON'T NEED ANY MORE SAT IIs! You have 3 x 800 already. Why would you take any more?? It is just crazy! Find something fun to do on Sat morning!

Your stats are great. I am just concerned that there are a lot of students posting on this site that have the sci/math/tennis/piano set of interests. Maybe you could check out some of the threads on this discussion board about how to distinguish yourself from the many other Asian applicants with the same credentials and interests. The essays seem like the best place to show how you are different. Good luck!

Who cares? Being well-balanced isn't a necessity. She doesn't suck in the humanities areas and thats good enough. Shes got more humanities stuff than I do and I was fine.

What distinguishes students that get accepted, is that they manage to present themselves as REAL PEOPLE as opposed to sets of stats. You don't need to be "balanced" or "well rounded". You do need to be a kind of person the adcom would be curious to meet.

If you write decent essays that are interesting and show your personality I would say you have a really good chance of getting in.

correction: you will get in to every single college in the world no matter what... because i am in love with you... oh yeah, and because your scores are good too..

I absolutely agree. As I've posted time and time again, make yourself real in your essays.

imo don't apply scea, it isn't geared toward people like us...trust me i know from experience. i feel like i wasted my scea/ed on stanford and i really regret it.

Erm, not too many people applied, but when they did, they got in (i think). B/c mainly they all applied to HYP last year but only this year they started applying to stanford.

=[ idk, it might be a bit risky but idk where else to apply none of the other schools i wanna go to have EA cept MIT lol, and idk if i wanna do MIT EA

ANYWAYZ thns for the responses :D

as cliche as it is, it's true: just do what you love and do it (really really really really really) well.

don't do anything you don't want to - it's pointless. stanford wants passion.

all the well-roundedness you need is doing well in your non-math/science courses pursuits (they want to see you do well at everything you do).

btw what pieces will be on your piano cd? i'm wondering if you should play that up as a major part of your app (it generally serves as a nice contrast to math/science)

avdaxes: I dont know about my CD. I recorded a bunch of songs when I played them and they are mp3s on a CD. But i will pick and chose which ones to send. Perhaps Stanford has requirements on what to send when u give them a CD; i think MIT does.

And i don't know what essays they would ask me to write, but I did write a great essay on my passion for music and piano that I can send to them as a supplement or as an answer to one of their essay prompts.

stanford is free choice of repertoire under 15min.
essays are: something about your "intellectual vitality," a letter to your roommate, and a why stanford in addition to the common app essay.

haha okay, thanks for the info!
