3.5 gpa, 1800 on the SATs. 4s and 5s on all my AP exams, varisty letters in xc and track, all county and all regional orchestra, letter in academics, and two student of the years (one in pe and one in history)

I think it will be tougher and that your SAT may need to be higher. Best of luck!

You should Early Decision if you really want to go there

Do you need any financial aid in order to attend NYU? If so, and you aren’t a NY state resident who is likely to qualify for HEOP, you need to think again. NYU has a well-documented history of not providing good financial aid.

I agree with happymomof1 and poi.

Sit down and have a conversation with whoever is paying for your education. If this person can pay for enough so that you won’t have to rely on much financial aid or any monstrous loans, then by all means, apply.

That being said, your chances of acceptance are slim unless you take your SAT again. Try reading an SAT help book or attending free prep sessions at your school. As a score goal, try to break 2000.

I got a 2120 on my sat
710 sat physics and 740 physics, and they threw me on the waiting list. Probably because I didn’t do any silly walks for charities or the fact that I’m not an “underprivileged” minority student.

i got into NYU with a 30 ACT score and a 4.0 GPA with no AP classes (my school doesn’t offer them). I’m not able to go though because it’s so insanely expensive, even with the rather generous scholarship offer they gave me. Just take your time on your essays and be really honest because I think that was what made them decide to admit me in the end. Good luck!!

Don’t listen to athavan. If you’ve seen a certain thread of his, you can tell that he’s just bitter and unrealistic.

I didn’t do any silly walks for charities, and I’m not an underprivileged minority student either. However, I let NYU know that I was passionate about my life, education, and career choice and they accepted me. By the way, my unweighted GPA is the same as OP’s and I had an SAT score of 2000. I didn’t end up attending because there was a better major program for me elsewhere.

Good luck, OP! Athavan, please retreat to your cave of bitter anguish until you’re ready to apologize to all the nice people here at CC.

OP I don’t think it’s unreasonable for you to be accepted.

It’s critical that you write an articulate essay expressing interest in NYU and how you would be an asset to the school. Market yourself.

And of course, increasing your SAT score closer to 2000 would be ideal…

But it’s definitely within reach.

Actually, how does one show the college their passion through an essay? My english isn’t very good so I find it hard to do so…

Well, for one, write about how you’ve demonstrated and will continue to demonstrate your passion. Have you volunteered in your interest area before? What do you plan to do with your degree in the field?

I got into CAS (not LSP) with a 3.4 GPA and a 2190 SAT. It’s not unlikely for you to be accepted, but you’d almost definitely be put in LSP for your first two years. I’m surprised I wasn’t.
