Would I be considered a minority?

Alright. My dad is Puerto Rican and my mom is Irish. So im about half anf half. But you would never guess I'm Puerto Rican. I'm white. Though i do tan easily. But my question is....as dumb as it sounds, could i put i am latino/hispanic on the application and be considered a URM.

Yes. And you should definitely use your hispanic heritage to your advantage.

I've never met an Irican before....
one of my friends is indian (india) and mexican..we call him indexico.

Do you feel disadvantaged?

Once you put it on the form, they don't do a FBI check to make sure that you really are. However, you will be invited to things at the school like "Hispanic Celebration Day" or something, and at some point, you will probably be caught, or asked to verify why you put it on the form.

The colleges are trying to attract a certain kind of person with affirmative action. Recently the Harvard Black Alumni Club figured out that only half of the blacks benefiting from AA at Harvard were descendants of slaves. The other half were foreign immigrants or people who were biracial. From reports, this bothered some of the alumni in the club and not others. As somebody who is really white with no Hispanic heritage visible (or otherwise), you putting down Hispanic on the form might bother some people. They might feel that you got a slot that was really intended for somebody else. On the other hand, you do have a reason and they can't really argue with it. If you do put down Hispanic, I suggest that you mark two boxes. One for Hispanic and one for white.

At any rate, whatever you put on the app should agree with whatever is on your high school transcript.

Well, it's not like im lying to the school if I actually am. Like dush said, use it to my advantage.

Yes, but that is the exact answer you were looking for when you posted this thread, so it's not dusk's idea, its yours.

my parents are from bangladesh and my both my grandparents are from bangladesh.......but my mom side of the family is light skin.......some people think my mom is white..............not until recently we found that, this is because my moms somethning great grandfathers were from austria-hungary.........they were born in european and most evidently probably considered white............................but can that mean im .00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001 % white?

well we all have hemoglobin.

Well see you're racially White but you're ethnicity could be hispanic or latino or whatever so you could consider yourself a minority.

Ethnicity is totally independent of "skin color". And many White people like to tan by the way so it's pretty stupid to depend on skin color.

Seriously, a white person from a white family who has lived in America for generations is more likely to have ancestors who were slaves and victims of discrimination than a black person who moved to this country recently.

Thats the smartest thing I've ever heard, ever. Are you God?

whats up dufus...............how is it going...................anyways, i think the op wants to be assured that he can whore is ethnicity to get into college

Ima go with Bestmiller on this one.

Well said Best miller

Well said Best miller

miler......im more of a runner than a drinker.......its all kool dont worry about it......get that a lot

It will definitely help your app and you should put it.

Thank you college2332 for finally answering me.

I too feel that the OP is trying to take advantage of the system, but the system is stupid. If his/her father is full Hispanic and his/her mother is white, then he/she can mark both boxes.

It makes more sense than the white person from South African on here a few months ago who wanted to claim that they were "African American."
