So I am currently enrolled in a CUNY Community College, however Spring 2014 will be my last semester, and I am transferring to Hunter College if all goes plan. I have two more classes to go which would be 8 credits, they are both science classes with labs so really I would have a separate lecture and lab but it is still considered only 4 credits for one class. How will my financial aid be determined ?
I looked at the tuition rates CUNY has online for part time students but it doesn't cover my expenses so would I owe the college ? Or since it is technically "two" classes a lab and lecture would it be full time ? My college will not accept my TAP because I am "part time" but I would in class 12 hours a week ?

With only 8 credits you will be a part time student and charged the part time rate.

You do seem to be eligible for tap even as a part time student:
[Part-time TAP Program](<a href=“NYS Higher Education Services Corporation - Part-time TAP”>NYS Higher Education Services Corporation - Part-time TAP)

I know there are limits on Tap though so you will have to check to see if you did not exceed those. You will still be able to take out a loan as a part time student.

Your status is determined by how many credit hours you’re attempting. NOT how many classes you’re attending.

In a semester system, 12 credit hours is generally considered full time. (it makes no difference how much time you spend in class, it is the credit hours that count).

So if you are taking 8 hours you will be part time. Probably half time as you are less than 9 hours. (as far as I can recall 6-8 hours is half time, 9-11 is 3/4, 12 and over is full. This makes a difference for some aid such as the PELL grant)

My School doesn’t even accept part time Tap =/

Thanks everyone who responded I guess I will just have to take out a loan lol
