Hey CCers, so I rarely post but it's coming to decision time soon and I'm a little lost.

So here's me: I'm an artsy, sarcastic, quasi-nerd who wants to go into international relations. I'm by no means an introvert. I will party in college but not insanely so. I don't like sports... In the least. I would take a philosophy or psych or English class as an elective. I love history.

I know the academics are perfect for me, but would I be happy within the CMC social scene or would I just be the weird girl taping postcards of modern art on her dorm room window?

This question would be better answered by a student but I’ll do my best with what I know. Not liking sports, is really not a problem, interest in philosophy, psych, history or English you will fit in just fine. I also don’t think being artsy is a problem from a social perspective but you may need to go to the other colleges to feed that part of your soul. That’s the great thing about the consortium. It would be great if you could attend the admitted students weekend and do an overnight. That is the best way to get a feel for if the fit is right for you.

I really would like a student perspective if anyone can give it? I’d love to make CMC work for me but my social apprehensions are holding me back. Any and all help would be appreciated.

Frackers: I’m a current CMC student, and I think you would fit in just fine here. We might be known for IR, Gov, and Econ, but our other most popular majors include literature, psychology, and bio. The philosophy, psych, and Lit departments are all phenomenal (the chair of our psych department is a former president of the American Psychological Association) and you could definitely find incredible and interesting electives to take in any discipline you want. While 1/3 of our student body plays varsity sports, that by no means is a social standard or indicator. I have plenty of friends here who have absolutely no interest in sports, and it’s totally fine. You say you aren’t an introvert, which already makes you an ideal CMC student (we’re all very outgoing!) and you clearly feel CMC may be a good place for you.
If you can, I advise staying overnight on campus. It’ll give you the best possible feel for campus life, and often helps people make a final decision.
Good luck!

Thanks you so much, that’s very helpful. I definitely want to try to do an overnight stay and get a better vibe. Now for the convincing my parents part, haha. But thank you
