Would I be in if I was instate?

Hey, I'm doing this for fun just to see how much better my life would be if I lived in NC :( But anyways, would I get in to UNC if I was a resident of NC? Btw, just for fun (I know what 99% of the answers will be), what are my chances as an OOS? UNC is one of the most perfect schools for me (it has my favorite bball team, perfect location, amazing academics, my idol michael jordan went there, etc), and I would do anything to have a chance of going there, so what can I do to improve?

Stats:
demographics:
*I am an Asian Indian Male
*From a competitive public high school in Oregon: Beaverton High School, which was also rated the best AP school in Oregon, so yeah, its a smart school. (On top of that, our graduating class is rumored to be the best class of all time, and we were ranked 704 by newsweek putting us in the top 2.5% of all high schools or something like that!! This was before our class started taking APs, so that number will probably raise even more by next year because our class is that good)

Other:
Teacher recs: Very good, one of my teachers said I'm one of the most motivated students she's had
Essays: Since I love UNC so much, they should be very good, and I'll make sure people tear it up for me.

I want to go to UNC really really badly and the only school that can compete with UNC when I really get down to it is UCLA, with USC and Virginia as other distant favorites, but that is only because they have a better football team (but UNC owns at basketball!!), and because I like Cali, but still I will do anything to get into UNC, so please give me some advice besides GPA/test scores.

btw, I'm taking 7 IB classes next year, so I will that at least show them that I'm not much of a slacker?

i think you have a pretty good shot from OOS, except the ACT is a bit low. you should consider taking it again and shoot for 32+. ECs are pretty good, and the essays count a lot so definitely show your passions through them. to answer your first question, pretty sure you'd be in if you were IS. OOS competition is intense, as im sure you already know, but then again, it's a bit of a crapshoot. there are people on this forum who got 1500 on the old SAT and got either waitlisted or rejected, whereas there are others who arent as impressive on paper (like me) who got in. i got a couple C's in AP classes and only had a 3.6 UW and 3.9-4.0 weighted GPA--and i still got in OOS. so just work really hard on the application and show them that you love UNC. good luck!

I think you would have an outstanding chance as an instate student but it is so hard to tell with OOS admissions. It is crazy how many OOS kids want to go to UNC. I was in an information session at UNC and 80% of the students in their were out OOS. That really just shows you what a great school it is that that many people want to go from other parts of the country. That's awesome that you're so determined to go there and yeah its not a shoe-in for us instate kids either. Your ECs look good just try taking the SAT you would probably do well on it considering your high ACT math and Reading score.
Hope this helps.

yes, you would be "IN" in-state.

You still have a shot OOS. They like to take kids from all 50 states each year, and Oregon is not a hotbed application-wise. All you have to do is beat out the other Oregon kids :-). They'll take 3 or 4..

Your credentials are good....and being a minority helps as well. Go for it !
